![]() Roland Blues Cube or Boss Nextone could do the trick (as I don't really need onboard effects like on the Katana) but I read mixed reviews about them. Roland Jazz Chorus and Quilter have good reputation too, but the Roland sounds too loud I think (that's what they say in the TPS episode about it) and Quilter are quite expensive. I thought about other things too (Line6 HX Stomp or Strymon Iridium) but I should buy speakers or a cab too, and it would not be cheaper than a Fender Tone Master. Is the Boss Katana the best amp for that price (300-400€ for the Katana 100 MKII) ? I could use it for its distorded sounds too. Always liked the way it looks and I read great thing about it. Is there a tube amp that can suit my needs ? I thought about the Fender Super Champ XD. I play indie rock (if that exists) : Radiohead, Muse, St Vincent, Queens Of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, etc. I play a J Mascis Jazzmaster (or a Telecaster with humbuckers or a Neil Young's LP Replica) and I use pedals for all the drive I need (currently, Keeley Fuzz Bender, Russian Big Muff, DOD Looking Glass). I also own a Boss Katana Mini for very low volume and headphone playing (that part is already covered). I then had a Blackheart Little Giant, a VOX Valvetronix, Vox AC15, Fender Blues Junior and finally the VOX AC10. My first setup was a Vox ToneLab so I'm familiar with modelisation. I'm not a purist or a tube snob, as a lot of my favorite artists don't play tube amps on tour and have embraced the Kemper-route (Muse, Nine Inch Nails, St Vincent, etc.). Like I said, I play mostly at home, at a "low volume", but it would be perfect if the amp could handle gigs (I've done 3 gigs in 3 years with the Vox so I'm not a touring musician). But I'm looking at other things right now. If I had the money, I think I would buy a Fender Tone Master and be done. I don't have a very high budget, as I only play home, and don't have time to play very often. Someting that is voiced like a Fender Blackface amp would be the best. I' m looking for an amp that I will use as a pedal platform. And playing 99% of the time in my basement in a tiny room, it's very loud (and at low volume, it's not very good sounding, like any tube amp). It's a very good amp, it nails that Top Boost Vox sound, but I'm tired of it. Roland JC-40 was a very good option but it's not the sound I'm after these days.I currently own a VOX AC10. Laney Super-Cub 12 and Fender Super Champ X2 remain good options too, but I find them less apealing. 50W is overkill most of the time for my needs, but eh, it's a Marshall.įender Bassbreaker 15 can only be found used for more or less the same price. Marshall Origin 50C is not much pricier (500€) and could be played at 5W. I always prefered 12" speakers in my amps. Marshall Origin 20C is at a very good price point atm (430€ at Thomann), but i'm concerned about the 10" speaker. ![]() I watched the TPS episode about the BJr / AC15 / Bassbreaker comparison and I actually prefered the Bassbreaker in all the situations. I'm between to amps these days : Marshall Origin and Fender Bassbreaker. I want to have something different from the Vox sound. Blackface-style amp at my price range are not the most common things. It will be very hard for me not to go for a tube amp. I profiled the amp.so you are hearing the digital reproduction of this amp on this clip.but it represents the amp well imho. Only downside is that the channels are not switchable.no problem at home.not practical at a gig. Cant think of anything better in that pricerange tbh. Sounds excellent at low volume, affordable. 3 great sounding channels, which get you the 3 food groups. Maybe also consider a modeler into the return of a tube combo.that works wonders!! I can recommend the boss core.or a kemper when you want to spend a little more.Īlso consider fenders bassbreaker 15.that amp really surprised me. No problem in a mix, or a good acoustic room.but next to an oversized s different I gig it now and then in small clubs.with civilized drummers.works great for my music.which does not include big rock sounds and chuggachugga. It eats a Katana for breakfast.really no comparison. Sounds good at low volume, the clean channel is a stereo type fender clean, takes pedals well. ![]() The fender superchampx2 is a very nice little amp.
